Once Upon a time in Tamil Cinema …..

Once upon a time in Tamil Cinema, way back in late 90s, we saw the rise of a hero named Vijay. His stretched-arm-neck movement was a craze among most of the school guys and college folks.
He rose to “guy-next-door’ image with movies like “Priyamudan”, “Love Today”, “Poovae Unnakaga” and is without a shadow of doubt the emblem of love..
Every guy who is in love back then was worshipping Vijay.. Kadhaluku Mariathai, along with above three mentioned movies and Thullatha Manamum Thullum presented an altogether different variety in terms of story to love movies..
His dance is a classic, his songs are the hot topics on A centers, his character is easily the most talked stuff among the other sections of the audience.
All the movies, “Kadhaluku Mariathai”, “Priyamudan”, “love today”, “TMT”, “Poovae Unnakaga” broke the usual climax formulae and all these movies saw the climax with just Hero and Heroine just talking… Needless to say, the story and finish is accepted widely among the audience, immaterial its the son or the parents.. Love movies got a new definition, and they are no more the movies that the parents of school kids hate…
The trade analyst rated him as the next Rajnikanth, for the fact how well he connects with the Audience.
BUT, there is a BUT in the story… the entire story took a U turn when he started to realise the “Hero” image he is getting. The blockbusters like Kushi took him to altogether different height, and he is very clearly insecure of the fact that his competant Ajith getting “MASS HERO” image by repeated action hero performance !!
Then came the problems, when guy next door Ungal Vijay, larger than life action hero Illaya Thalapathy !! He actually, forgot what took him there or he has forgotten the secret behind the success.
True, DAMN True, His fan base is larger than ever, the mass hero Vijay Has bigger fan base than Ungal Vijay. But what about the common people ? He got the stampad as the hero giving movies for B & C Audience. The era changed, and now in the current era where the collections from A Center play a real real vital role, its tough for an actor to compete and be on top…
a decade back, when he had hardly 1/10 of fan base he has got now, he could even compete with the top notces Kamal and Rajni in the box office war.. Some even believed that its just the matter of time Vijay will take over the throne as box office king of TC, but what happened ? When Rajni and Kamal were giving movies with collections crossing 100 and 200 C Vijay has not moved from 20C collection mark !!! The reason ? while the release number, ticket prize, the viewers of movies in A center has doubled and tripled helping them while those criterias in B and C centers has stagnated, not helping him much…
This aint no anti-vijay thread… Its time to remember the memorable moments he has given… Time to shake it off and believe the fact that the guy-next-door Vijay is surely the REAL DARLING OF MASS… Its been a long time we have seen some sensible movie from him… face the fact.. Its been a long time i ever sympathized on his character.. Its been a long time I left a Vijay movie with a hard heart…
where is the guy who gave us some special movements like late 90s..
Some classic songs i was hearing while i wrote this ..
PLEASE DO WATCH the climax of movies :: PRiyamudan, Poovae unnakaga and Love today.. it leaves ur heart heavy for sure… which only Kamal Haasan movies has done earlier..
Pooja Va Pooja Va song ::
Bharathiku Kannama ::
Poovae Poovae sempoovae ::
Sollamalae yaar parthathu ::
Enna azhagu ethanai Azhagu ::
Priyamudan Climax ::
Love Today Climax ::
Poovae Unnakaga ::
No doubt, Ghilli, thirapachi, Thirumalai brought him more and more aggressive fanatics.. But he is no more “the darling of masses”. As a matter of fact, common people in A center has started to restrain themselves from watching his movies. Repeated flops had made sure even his die hard fans lose momentum.
Vijay sir, sorry, Vijay anna… Its high time u realise you strength. Its not being larger than life hero.. Your real strength lies in connecting with every single audience. Your real strength is your unique ability to be the guy next door. Hope u realize it fast and give us back a movie with just dialogues in climax and still leaving us with a heavy heart.. No more action scenes please !!!
